In order to commission and maintain the Semmering Base Tunnel, a new plant service center is being built at the Gloggnitz site. The entire structure is structurally divided into three components.

The office building consists of 2 upper floors and a basement.

It is approx. 57.00 m long and 23.00 m wide and contains technical rooms, a fitness room, training room, meeting room, kitchen, various offices, changing rooms and washrooms.

The workshop building has 1 storey and consists of a metalworking shop, welding shop, workshop, iron store, hazardous goods store and timber workshop. The internal storage areas are directly connected to the track hall via gates. It is approx. 49.00 m long and 23.00 m wide.

The track hall has two aisles and has 3 sidings and a 3-part, 29 m long assembly pit with a depth of 1.6 m.

After removing the existing buildings and tracks, sheet piling will be used to secure the excavation pit. 29 deep boreholes with an effective depth of 170 m will be drilled for geothermal energy. The basement area of the building will be sealed with bentonite mats due to the groundwater level being approx. 1.50 m below ground level.

From the first floor upwards, the load-bearing elements are built using solid timber construction. A rear-ventilated timber façade made of untreated or thermally treated larch wood boards, which are laid vertically, is used for the majority of the building. The rest of the building is a reinforced concrete structure.

The track hall is designed with a flat roof construction, consisting of a steel structure (span 15m) with load-bearing cross-laminated timber panels with sloping insulation and gravel fill. The office building also has a gravel-covered flat roof made of cross-laminated timber panels. This warm roof construction is mainly used for photovoltaic (PV) elements in the area of the two building components.

The heat supply for the property is provided by heat pumps and the use of geothermal energy with deep boreholes as energy sources. Ceiling and underfloor heating systems are planned as the main heat dissipation system. Radiant ceiling panels are planned for the workshops and component activation is planned for the ASC hall.

In addition to the maintenance of the mountain line, the ASC base in Gloggnitz also serves to provide a rescue unit for the Semmering Base Tunnel and a weather-protected parking facility for maintenance vehicles. Up to 100 employees will be deployed at the site.
