ÖBB Mattersburg Railway
Enhancement, Upgrading, and Electrification—Forward-Looking Modernization of an International Rail Link. ÖBA on behalf of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG.

The Mattersburg Railway, which is approximately 25 km long, is undergoing extensive modernization and electrification. The goal of the project is to adapt the line to the future requirements of passenger and freight traffic and to establish a continuous electrified rail connection between Wiener Neustadt and Sopron.
The project includes the renewal of the rail infrastructure, the modernization and accessibility upgrades of several transit stations, and the construction of additional track systems. In addition, railway and road bridges will be built or modified, technical buildings and switching stations will be constructed, and control, signaling, and telecommunications systems will be upgraded. New Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities will also be built.
Most of the work will be carried out during a track closure from February through December 2026. The large number of trades working simultaneously, as well as the interfaces between railway engineering, building construction, civil engineering structures, and transportation facilities, place special demands on the coordination of construction processes, schedule management, and quality assurance.
TM3 Baumanagement GmbH, together with FCP Fritsch, Chiari & Partner ZT GmbH, is responsible for on-site construction supervision of the construction and equipment trades. The scope of services includes, in particular, monitoring quality, costs, and schedules; coordinating the contractors and project participants; and ensuring compliance with technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements. In addition, the on-site construction supervision team will oversee inspections, acceptance procedures, and commissioning during the construction phase.
Upon completion of the project, the line’s performance, accessibility, and operational safety will be improved, and the conditions for continuous electric rail service between Wiener Neustadt and Sopron will be established.
